2012 Presidential Election/Gay Marriage in New York

NOTE: This post is for all my followers kickin' it here in the states.

What are your thoughts on the 2012 presidential election? Will Obama win, or will one of the GOP candidates win? I personally think Obama will win, or at least I'm hoping that will happen. Considering almost all the GOP candidates are fucking stupid, I can only hope America has some common sense and picks what some would call the lesser of two evils.

Like anyone with some shred of dignity, I try and stay out of politics. It's too complicated. I say if a political ideology can't be summed up in 140 characters you need to get the fuck out. But some issues are close to my heart, so I feel I should talk about them, if only to get them off my chest. For example, gay rights.

That's the second thing I want to discuss. What does everyone here on Blogger think of the recent vote in New York that allowed gay and lesbian couples to marry? I personally think it's a great move towards equality, and as an advocate of gay rights I hope this will become a trend in America. but of course, some of you may disagree, so please leave your opinions in the comments.

Well, hopefully I can avoid discussing my political opinions for awhile, but I think such a big issue should be acknowledged and I'm glad it was.

  1. I'm fairly sure Obama is going to win, but then again I don't dwell in politics too much.
As far as the gay marriage thing goes, I think it's a good move they pay taxes so they should be treated equally no?

  2. i think it is a great victory! i can understand not supporting gay marriage... but opposing it? No. Why should anyone care? Its not like it affects straight couples!

  3. its ok for equality, but then once they do that, theres no stopping, and no im not gay bashing, i have gay friends, im just saying a piece of paper doesnt tell you if you are in love or not. not to mention they been fighting for gay marriges for how long? whats the next thing they are going to fight for? because you know they will. most people have a "I CANT GET ENOUGH COMPLEX!!!" so question is what will they be going for next, and not just gays either. its everyone.

  4. I'm sincerely hoping for an independent Ron Paul/Jesse Ventura ticket.
I want the war on drugs to end. I want all foreign bases closed. I want all troops home. I want a president who doesn't belong to either party.

But, if I can't have that, I'd say Obama is better than any of the other Republicans.

  5. Really, I don't know why it wasn't approved before, it doesn't really matter.

  6. Ron Paul for me.... although Obama did snuff two d-bags at once (osama in the head and trump [interrupting his show to announce the hit])

of course that is as long as you don't believe the pressing evidence that osama was already dead...

  8. I am sure Obama will win again, if Bush managed to win twice then Obama should win very easily.

  9. I think gay couples should have the right to be married and miserable just like everybody else.

  10. I think most people who get married have no fucking clue what they're getting into, and that's why the divorce rate is so high. It's gonna be the same for gays. I think utilizing some kind of moral or spiritual precedent to persuade legislature is against what a free, secular society stands for, but I do think there are ethical issues intrinsic to marriage as a whole that need to be looked at in depth. At least within a widespread social context... not necessarily within a legal one.

As for Obama... I can't say for sure who we'll elect, but keep in mind something - the American people elected Bush TWICE! Just keep that in mind when you look at those imbecilic GOP candidates. And I know this sounds kind of stupid, but... I don't plan on voting. I don't like any of the candidates, not even Obama. I'm not gonna "settle" for anything; I think the American people should be more inclined to look for more competent politicians, rather than lazily just going with whichever one is lesser of two evils. But... that's pretty idealistic.

  13. With so many young voters on Obama's side, he is sure to win.

  14. @banaceck There's an article i read on how gay couples are lucky to be able to feel like they're breaking the law (which is supposed to be kinky and exciting) when having sex. Too bad they'll feel the downside of marriage as well lol that is..depending on the person.

  15. Obama will most likely win. His worst enemy isn't anyone in the republican field, it's the economy. Worst thing that could happen is that it gets even worse from now till election day.

As for marriage equality in New York, it's nice that America just got a tad bit more civilized. I think it's disgusting that we still have as many states as we do discriminating against gay and lesbian couples.

  16. I think Obama will win, just because I haven't seen a competent GOP candidate. Of course, anything's possible in this hick country. I personally think that the legalization of gay marriage is a big step forward. The USA is really behind in terms of social progress.

  18. I have realised that it doesn't matter what I think about gay marriage or other stuff, because it won't change a darn thing. People like to over-simplify how complicated things are. It's just easier to deal with a black-and-white reality than it is with one of many colours.

  19. I think it really doesnt matter who wins anymore, this country just needs someone to step up.

  20. Did Westburough get involved in this at all?

  21. Whose to say that a gay couple can't get married and be miserable like 99.9% of all straight couples? Now, if we could get our country out of debt...

  22. I'm pretty sure Obama will win. Mostly because the Republicans can't figure out their shit. And you will see a huge backlash against republicans if there is no job growth in the next year too, so there is that.
